Software it controls what we are aware of, what news we are see, what E-mail's we read, what friends we chat with.
These system filter, prioritize and organize for us, and in the name of helping us could be leaving us in a safe bubble oblivious to the reality around us.
This is in the form of Facebook filtering the messages we see, spam filters removing E-mails from our inbox's, Biasing of Google Search results, scheduling of TV programming and channel guides.
Control of this software is too important to be left as closed source and in the trust of large faceless corporations.
This is why we need to take back our computers and software.
I didnt really understand OccupyInside, "It also controls what we are aware of. What news we are told, what E-mail's we read, what friends we chat with." How can software control what E-mail we read,or what friends we chat with?.
It's about opensource, it about teaching our kids critical thinking skills. How to reason and think for themselves.
How do you know what is going on in the world. TV, RADIO, NEWPAPER, Internet. Soon all will be internet all is controlled by software and those who control that software will control all you know about the world. Meaning there could be a war going on and if they chose not the broadcast it you would never know. You'd never comment and express and option because your unaware of it. The Occupy Wallstreet movement was like that, TV, Newpaper and Radio refused to cover it for the first few weeks. The only way to know about the clashes with Police was the Internet. After a certain time you start to realize Facebook is the only credible source of news you have on that subject. But how do we even know if this is the case?
